Introduction to Programming and Lighting Design

(16 Hours Classroom Time)

Class Objective - This course introduces students to programming lighting consoles, focusing on the most common practices necessary to begin doing so professionally. This class also spends a good portion of time teaching some basic theories of lighting design.

Part 1: Lighting Design Basics
Determining Appropriate Fixtures and Positions
Introduction to Color Theory
Lighting for Video vs. Live Audience

Part 2: Introduction to Programming
Setting up a Console
Patching Fixtures
Manipulating Fixture Attributes
Recording Groups/Palettes/Cues/Submasters/Effects
Understanding Tracking
Show Playback
Working with Unfamiliar Consoles

Course Objective -
Students who complete this course will have an understanding of all fundmentals for them to be a skilled and knowledgeable member of a lighting team.

Intended as a follow-up from Level 1, this course is intended to offer a more complete understanding of how advanced lighting systems function in the most common scenarios.
